Mindy Kitchens, LCSW
Therapist | (She/Her)
If you’ve spent a lot of time figuring out who you are — or who you’re allowed to be — and you’re ready for a therapist who already accepts the full answer, I’m glad you found this page.
Hi! I'm Mindy.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and EMDR-trained therapist based in Dallas, and I work with adults who are navigating identity, major life changes, grief, anxiety, and trauma — often all at once.
I believe you are the expert on your own life. My job isn’t to fix you or redirect you. It’s to create a space calm enough that you can actually hear yourself. I work from a place of unconditional acceptance — not as a technique, but as a genuine way of being with people. That means whoever you are, whatever you’ve been through, and wherever you are in your process: you belong in this space.
I’m an openly LGBTQ+ affirming therapist. That’s not a box I check — it’s a commitment that shapes everything about how I show up. For clients navigating questions of identity, orientation, and expression, finding a therapist who truly gets it (and doesn’t need you to explain or justify yourself) matters enormously.
You might be someone who:
- Is navigating a significant life transition — a relationship ending, a career change, a move, a shift in who you thought you were
- Identifies as LGBTQ+ and wants a therapist who is genuinely affirming, not just tolerant
- Is a caregiver — a parent, a partner, a helper — who gives a lot and is quietly running on empty
- Is grieving something, whether that’s a person, a relationship, an identity, or a version of your life you thought you’d have
- Carries anxiety that feels bigger than your circumstances can explain
- Wants therapy that feels human — not clinical, not scripted, not like you have to perform being okay
I tend to move at the pace that feels right for you. Some clients want to go deep quickly; others need time to build trust before anything meaningful can happen. I hold space for both. Sessions with me often feel conversational and warm, with room for silence when you need it. If we use EMDR, we’ll build a strong foundation first — I want you to feel resourced, not ambushed. I also draw on CBT and strengths-based approaches when those tools fit. Mostly, I want you to leave feeling a little more settled than when you arrived.
Specialties
LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy I offer genuinely affirming care for clients across the LGBTQ+ spectrum — navigating coming out, identity exploration, family dynamics, relationships, and the specific stressors that come with living in a world that isn’t always built for you.
Grief and Loss | Grief doesn’t follow a timeline or a checklist. I work with people grieving people, relationships, identities, futures — and I’ll never rush you through it.
Trauma | Many of my clients carry things from their past that show up in their present — in how they relate, how they feel in their body, how they respond to stress. We work through it at a pace that feels manageable.
Anxiety | When anxiety is running the show, it’s hard to trust your own instincts. I help clients reconnect with their own wisdom underneath the noise.
Life Transitions | Adulting is hard. Figuring out who you are while also managing everything else is harder. I work with clients in the middle of significant change — and the grief and possibility that come with it.
Caregiver Support | People who spend a lot of time holding space for others often have no space held for them. I work with caregivers, helpers, and “strong ones” who are ready for someone to show up for them.
