Erin Knebel, LCSW
Therapist | (They/She/Her)
Welcome! My name is Erin Knebel.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My therapeutic approach is holistic and Self-driven, honoring the sacred nature of mind, body, and spirit. As an empowering therapist, I focus on leading you back to your Self! You are your own expert, and you know yourself better than any doctor, therapist, or coach. Society and upbringing often severs us from our natural understanding of emotions, thoughts, and soul. My aim is to bring people back into the rich world of their own mind and body.
To struggle is normal.
To be “normal” in a discontent society entails being discontent yourself. We often find ourselves pursuing other people’s dreams and desires for our lives instead of our own, trying to “fit in” instead of being our true selves. If you are acting out unlived dreams or generational trauma of others, you might find yourself being restless, depressed, anxious, despairing, terrified. Your unique Self becomes buried, and you might find yourself asking, “What is the point of all this?”
Many people with vibrant identities find themselves struggling to fit into oppressive societal molds, creating a sense of depression, anxiety, and unease. Plenty of others have found themselves damaged by those closest to them, creating lasting and complex trauma that needs consistent attention to heal. Thus, you find yourself with the responsibility to break these cycles, but you might not know how to even start.
Self-Driven Therapy for Spiritual Issues empowers you.
Despite the difficulty of these trauma symptoms and many others, there is a solution, and that solution rests within you. An empowering therapist will remind you of your control and agency. You are not broken. You were injured, and injuries can be healed. You are already whole; my goal is to help you remember.
Destructive patterns can develop as a desperate attempt to soothe pain and suffering. Clever and necessary as these tools once were, these patterns outgrow their usefulness and require radical self-compassion and powerful tools to adjust. Such patterns can result in:
- Addictions, to substances or behaviors
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Dissociation, derealization, depersonalization
- Sense of emptiness or meaninglessness
- Not feeling at home in your body
- Not embracing the full spectrum of your emotions
- Repeating negative cycles (your own, or generational)
If you recognize any of these experiences in your own life, you may benefit from self-driven therapy for spiritual issues.

It’s OK to seek help for mental illness or mental health issues.
The search for the right therapist for you can be a chore. Whether spiritual issues, therapy for dissociation, or religious trauma healing Erin Knebel can help empower you on your journey. It’s true, anti-oppressive counseling is vitally important in these instances. Moreover, the therapeutic relationship is crucial to effective healing, and a mental health professional can help.
If you’ve experienced spiritual abuse, post traumatic stress disorder, a traumatic event related to religion or spirituality, or been ostracized from your faith community or family members for your belief system or questioning of a higher power, you’re not alone.
Religious trauma syndrome is real, and you can heal. A happier, healthier you is possible. Though many mental health conditions listed in the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders may respond well to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), we often need a more tailored, and even eclectic approach based on personal circumstance.
